History The Burmilla was originally created quite by accident when in 1981 in the UK there were, living in the same household, a beautiful Lilac Burmese female and a very handsome male Chinchilla Persian cat. When it came time for the Burmese to be mated she was safely locked away until arrangements could be made to send her off to a suitable Burmese mate. |

She had ideas of her own and when a door was accidentally left open by the cleaner, the Burmese, unbeknown to anyone, was able to make her love struck way to her beloved Chinchilla boy and history was made. Nine weeks later there appeared a litter of the most beautiful silver kittens with vivid green eyes, little pink noses and mouths all outlined in black liner. |

Those kittens created much interest in the cat world. Because of their stunning good looks and exceptionally social personalities the demand was great. Breeders decided to submit a breeding program using Chinchilla Persians and Burmese as the foundation breeds to develop this new breed ... and the Burmilla was born. Their "Look" Appearing in a Silver coat pattern in both the shaded and tipped variety, the base coat is pure white and the colour is restricted to the ends of the hair shaft. This gives the Burmilla the appearance of being a white cat that has been sprinkled all over with a mantle of delicate colour. |

Coming in five tipped or shaded coat colours - black, blue, brown, chocolate and lilac - they have a short slightly more dense coat than that of a Burmese but still very silky, soft and luxurious to the touch. The coat is easy maintenance - only requiring a brush to keep the silky appearance and to enjoy the bonding that only regular brushing and stroking can create. Temperament The Burmilla is easy to train and is a generally well-behaved cat. They have a medium activity level and adjust well to other animals and cope well with indoor living. |

Extremely affectionate, intelligent and social cats, Burmillas love to please. Combining the best qualities of both their foundation breeds, they have a very laidback and friendly personality that is very tolerant and placid in nature. They make an ideal companion for children, singles or couples and people say that the only thing better than owning one Burmilla cat is owning two of them! |
